SPLITBOARD HIRE

Premium Splitboard Rental

Adventure Ready Gear

Our Splitboard Hire package is designed for riders looking to explore Queenstown’s backcountry and off-piste terrain. A splitboard is essentially a snowboard that splits into two halves, becoming skis for touring uphill with the help of skins. Once you reach the peak, the two halves reattach to become a snowboard for the ride down.

Our fleet features top-tier brands and advanced technology, including K2 (Farout), Karakoram, and Plum (Etellou). These boards offer a variety of profiles like rockered noses and hybrid shapes to give you the best “float” in deep powder. Our expert team ensures every piece of equipment is thoroughly checked for safety and performance before you head out.

Quality Gear & Expert Advice

We carry one of the most specialized splitboard rental fleets in Queenstown. Our team will help you find the perfect size generally between your chin and nose to ensure you have stability on the way up and control on the way down. If your boot size is US 11 or larger, we provide wide boards to eliminate toe-drag and keep your riding smooth.

Try Before You Buy

Investing in splitboard gear is a big step. With our “Try Before You Buy” option, you can test our premium setups on the mountain. If you decide to purchase your own board afterward, we will deduct the 3-day hire cost from your retail purchase price.

Full Tutorial & Setup

Splitboard rentals take a bit more time because we prioritize your safety and understanding of the gear. We provide a hands-on tutorial covering:

Touring Mode: How to switch bindings from ride mode to ski mode.

Skins Management: How to apply skins tip-to-tail and keep the adhesive clean.

Heel Raisers: Using different heights (flat, first riser, and second riser) for steep climbs.

Transitions: The “Flip n Rip” mechanism and how to securely lock your board back together.

Important Backcountry Tips

Safety is our 100% priority in the backcountry. Please keep these expert tips in mind:

Crampons: New Zealand conditions are variable. If you are heading into icy or alpine terrain, we highly recommend renting crampons. Skins can only do so much; crampons provide the grip you need for a safe ascent.

Poles: Our G3 Tri-Fold poles are for balance and stability during the hike. They are lightweight and not designed to hold full body weight or for downhill skiing.

Skins: Each skin is numbered and cut specifically for its board. Keep them warm and dry inside your jacket or bag when not in use to ensure the glue stays active.

Professional Guides: While we provide the best gear, we do not provide route recommendations. For your safety, we always suggest hiring a professional guide for backcountry touring.
